After the awesome experience at Manuel Antonio, we headed back on the road for the next experience. In search of the beautiful elusive bird, the Quetzal in the Cloud Forest. Everyone you talk to has been to Monteverde...We chose the less traveled/not the standard tourist destination. The Talamanca mountains (south of San Jose) host the same climate and wildlife attractions. We were NOT disappointed!
Our guide at Manuel Antonino recommended a place to stay on top of the cloud forest.
Long story of the drive from the beach up the mountain to Mirador de Quetzales at 8800 feet elevation. Our cabin, and auto in the photo shows we are at the top of the cloud forest.
Our rustic cabin room... they fluff the two towels into a flower...can you see them? The shower was cold until Mike discovered the next day that there is a switch to turn on HOT water for the shower. Oh well...Costa Rica is very environmentally conscience and we helped with cold showers.
Big View from our little deck-see why it is called the Cloud Forest. We were in AWE!
Timed photo with my camera. Here we are enjoying the view, swallows nesting above us, and the early evening rain.
Another view with clouds coming in
Dinner of garlic trout and rice. Their dinners are very simple, no sauce or extras but the service was special...we were the only guests :) This is the beginning of off season...
